Time After Time Capsule
“Time After Time Capsule” explores whether the concept of Kawaii can actually effect global change. Masuda defines Kawaii as an individualized microcosm of collected objects and feelings uniquely personalized by each individual. Bringing together these microcosms into a greater whole, in “Time After Time Capsule,” Masuda—together with participants—hopes to collect a plethora of items that have intimate sentimental value in larger-than-life time capsules.
This project will culminate in 2020, the year of the Tokyo Olympics, at which time all the time capsules filled with personal objects in each city will be joined together in Tokyo and installed as a sculptural intervention displayed in a public space.  Around 2035, about 20 years since the project started, the ceremony to open the time capsules will be held.
